My favorites are all deceased.

Living? Jack Baruth and his brother Bark are up there.

Still Davey G, writing for Jalopnik.

Of course, I grew up with David E. Davis and Jean Jennings, but... the one who captured the spirit of the time was Davey G, especially when he and Jonny Liebermann were were writing together.

It was a short moment of beauty and possibility combined with massive knowledge of history. I wish everyone who’s reading this could have read them, then. And have seen the pictures from the LA show in 2006 (? maybe 7)

Smellin like the 70s was not such a bad thing.

If that’s LJK Setright, that’s my answer.

People actually write the stuff on Jalopnik? I thought they just copy/pasted bits of Reddit posts and called it good.

Car & Driver used to really be something, back in the day. They were staffed with real, actual car people like Brock Yates, and people with real world automotive engineering experience like Bedard and Csere. They even regularly went out on a limb for some stories, such as testing what happens when the authors drove while high on weed (this was in the ‘70s, so before the “War on Some Drugs” fired up but still a pretty big risk.)

Now they’re just empty pap, staffed by the same minimally-worthwhile word pukers who are in the business simply to live off of media dinners and free use of cars.

The FP? I’m not sure if they do or not. You’re right, there’s a lot of copy/paste/summarize happening now. I’ll be honest with you, it’s nothing like when Ray or even Matt was at the helm.
